Well, let's see...I'm a 32 yo male from Pittsburgh, PA. I've been writing since I was a youngster. Really started to write on a deeper and more lyrically based level probably around 19. Before that it was mostly short stories.
As far as my style goes, I'm pretty much an ignoramus when it comes to the finer points of actual poetry. But then again I really don't know if I would consider my content poetry per se, I base it more as a rhyme. I've loved hip-hop since I was in like 1st grade, so that's where most of my influences come from. All of my pieces are done straight off the top of the head, and done in ink. I find I do my best the less I think about it, so some of my stuff may seem a little unpolished or unrefined, but like I said, it's in it's pure, basically unaltered form, straight from my mental. Lol. I usually write when I gots a lot going on upstairs.
I love great MC's who really are masters at crafting rhymes. Some of my biggest influences would be Killah Priest, his lyrics are really deep, dark, brooding, wrapped with mystisism and biblical old testament references. Del The Funky Homosapien, because he is just so unique. His work on Deltron3030 is nothing short of an absolute masterpiece. The Wu-Tang Clan, I love how they can mix the streets with kung-fu, numerolgy and all kinds of stuff and somehow make it work. 36 Chambers was a defining part of my life when it came out. Totally blew me away.
There's a ton of others I love: Boot Camp Click, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, M.O.P, Big-L, all the Wu-Tang affiliates and offshoots, Hieroglyphics, Pharcyde (of course), Common, Kanye, and waayy too many more to name. I also love basically almost any othe rkind of music. Other fav acts are Sublime, Pepper, Zero Seven, Bouncing Souls, Reel Big Fish, Long Beach Dub All Stars, Jack Johnson, Buck O Nine, Beatles, George Duke, Frank Sinatra, Portishead, Weezer, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Rage Against The Machine, Rondo Brothers, Band Of Horses, Dan The Automator, Prince Paul, Handsome Boy Modeling School, etc....
Anywho, I stumbled across this site while doing a Google search for some inspiring words about self-esteem, and found some interesting pieces. And now here I am :-)
