playing with my hair
watching the stillness of the stars
untangling memories
not thinking about them
the future is always bright
the past is always dim
kneading balls of clay
creating little men
thinking about the universe
playing with my hair
asking endless questions
finding answers each more disappointing than the last.

Cras, cras stellis volamus.
Poetry can shatter the heart or make it sing.
Please read some of the poetry by my amazing Chinese student, Maple. She has worked very hard to learn English, and I have just begun teaching her how to write poetry. Please read her poems and leave a nice comment; constructive criticisim is also appreciated. Thank you!
I don't have favorite poets, but only favorite poems. So if I ever add you to my favorites list, then take that as the biggest compliment that I can give.
"Why do the Chinese shun their own homeland and migrate? Take flight, grow roots somewhere else, start the diaspora? It is freedom. Freedom to move about, from city to city, freedom to speak up, to write down, freedom to choose and select your representative, to protest, to object, to exercise your rights as a human being. To do all these without fear and reprimand, without restrictions. In some countries it is known as democracy. Human rights. It is this freedom which lures so many Chinese away." - Lilian Ng, Swallowing Clouds
I'm free, but I would be more free if I had not left...
I want China, my friends; I will work hard to gain the freedom to live in my hometown.
