COLOR ME BLACK
Darkness can be worn
in comfortable folds
of moonless nights
when the wind-chased
clouds are deliberating
dense and low.
Wrap me in blankets
of thick fog where
the light cannot reach,
and the cool wetness
gathers in droplets
upon my cheeks.
No one need ever know
they are not all from
the black night mist
cleansing me sweetly
Beneath this pine -
Hiding my tears.
COLOR ME ROSE
Color me rose,
color me red,
subtle and soft
as a virgin's blush;
paint me a flower
with beautiful hue,
stroking it gently
with breath of the spring.
Color me rose,
color me red,
make me as sweet
as buds in July;
Fill me with promise
and hope for the day,
bursting forth gladly
to dance and to sing.
