in case you've never read it...here is "IF" by Rudyard Kipling
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!
--Rudyard Kipling

The incredibly boring stuff:
I am the youngest of 8 children. I have 5 and a half sisters and two brothers.
My wife's name is Wendy. We have two "super shelter" mixed breed mutts whom we love very much.
We recently moved to a new house, (2006) so I'm thinking it might be time for a poem called "It's in a box somewhere".
I collect comic books (DC prior to the "Crisis" and focusing on 1970-1986), and have been doing so since the mid-70's (Detective Comics #444...1st purchase), even though my collection suffered a 2200 book "stupidity loss" in 1990/1991 range.
I firmly believe we all have 5 stupid things we can do in life that are so stupid we can't tell anyone about them. Trust me...you probably have NOT used yours up yet.

My own poetry style wanders all over the map. (Though it runs more serious in fall and winter and only lightens up in spring...as a general rule)
I am NOT the protagonist of any poem of mine that is not listed under "personal" I just have the occasionally sick and diseased thoughts like any other male on this planet.
And the most secret thing about my poetry writing is
~~~~!~~~~@~~~~#~~~~$~~~~%~~~~^~~~~&~~~~*~~~~(~~~~)~~~~_~~~~+~~~~-~~~~=
Quotes:
"What the f*k did the 3rd guy do?" - Legendary Songwriter Harlan Howard refering to songwriting credits that include 3 names.
Rue on October 2, 2006I look forward to reading, too, but I should sleep instead of stare, and breathe in those lingering dreams that ask me to have them.
I wish you well, fellow wordsmith.
