    Salaam Sana.How are you sis?
It’s new year and I think you are in holiday(While here term exams started and I’m busy with lessons *Jealous*)
Our new year starts in the first day of spring. I don’t know how much you know about it so I want to write a bit:
“Norouz is a celebration by Persion of all religoins, religoins and ethnic groups and is the most joyous holiday of the year.Preparation for the holiday commence weeks before the actual event. The house is cleaned and decorated, special foods are prepared and the family will usually purchase new holiday clothing.Obligatory visits to friends and families are taken place in norouz holiday. If a visit is not possible the new years greeting is exchanged in greeting cards.
For over 2000 years, this celebration, alleged to have been originated by Shah Jamshid, has been memorialized in literature and folklore. It is a tradition containing many rituals.
The observance of Norouz leans heavily on the rebirth of earth and its crops. In spring, everything is renewed and reborn in nature.Flowers bloom and trees blossom.

What is Haft Seen or the “Seven S’s”?
Haft is the Persion word for seven (7),and seen corresponds to the English letter “s” and thus we together on the holiday table and represent the happiness that all families will strive for in the New Years.

The seven S’s are made up of:
    Sabzeh,wheat or lentil sprouts rebirth.
Samanu,a creamy pudding made from wheat germ is regarded as holy.
    Seeb,aple symbolized health and beauty.
Senjed, the dried fruit of lotus tree for love.
Sir,garlic which is considered medicinal represents health.
Somagh, sumac berries represents the color of sun and the victory of good over evil.
Serkeh, vinegar represents old age and patience.
There are other things you can place on the table which may not begin with the letter ‘s’ but have significance. For instance, the holy book of Koran, for its purity & Sonbol and Laleh (hyacinth and tulip) two lowers symbolize spring, painted eggs stands for fertility of people and land & a mirror to symbolize reflection of life, candles to represent happiness and goldfish to represent life.
The table may also include an orange floating in space.
The holiday concludes on the thirteen day (which is 13th day into spring). At this time, the sabzi, which has been growing,is taken with the family on the picnic.Depending on where the families live the Sabzi is either planted in the ground or thrown into a water stream. It is believed that the Sabzi will then grow and enrich the earth with seeds of life and fertility.”

On Norouz families go to visit their relatives to congratulate new year and those who are older give some money or gifts as “Eidi”!So who might not like Norouz?!
And before the new year starts, those who are richer buy cloths and other things to those who are poor. They give their gifts to some places named Komiteye Emdad

[new IM] AutumnSky: I just spoke as somebody from Southern California, who lived next door to Los Angeles during the "civil unrest" of 1992, when the racist jury acquitted the white officers of beating Rodney King on videotape, and all hell broke loose, with the riots. Like I said, I completely understand where the French Muslims are coming from. The French mentality towards immigrants and people of color baffles and disgusts me. I don't believe that b-s that they just prize their own culture -- it's that they despise Islam. They seemed to have no problem with Sikh males wearing their turban, which is religiously mandated (not cultural). They only wanted to stop girls from wearing hijab, and thus punished all other religious attire, to maintain the farce that it wasn't biased, when it clearly was.

My only issue is that burning cars and attacking cops will only take them so far. I'm more bleak about whether this will really change the French mentality. It might just harden the position.

Regarding my poems, there was only one specifically about hijab- I wrote it about personal experience but dedicated it to hijab-wearing Muslim girls and women in France (and Turkey and Tunisia, for that matter). French Muslim women should claim denial of religious freedom, and migrate to the U.S.

I can't believe I studied French for 10 years, and was actually fluent in it...
