Three Good Swings
It's finally my turn at bat
I fix the pants and tug the hat
And step right up beside the plate
The ball held in the hand of fate
Whose awesome speed and sneaky curve
Can cause the strong to lose their nerve
But I do not a muscle twitch
As I await his stealthy pitch
He winds and now the ball does fly
I swing!
With a sizzle it passes by
The catcher laughs, my head is numb
The umpire smiles and says "strike one"
I dig the cleats and give a glare
Once more the ball is in the air
I swing!!
It weaves and slides right through
The umpire smiles and says "strike two"
Again he hurls that devils sphere
And as I see it drawing near
With mighty force I set bat free!!!!
The umpire smiles and says "strike three"
No moral here or hidden meaning
On this, the game of life's convening
I'm happy with the little things
Like hotdogs, beer, and three good swings

toomysterious : Three Good Swings on July 20, 2008Just read this poem and had to say I love it. I'm an avid baseball fan and despite your ending lines there is definitely a lesson in this.

DareU2Byourself : Hi Friend :) on May 13, 2008I've been neglecting AllPoetry SOOO badly! And next week I start summer school, so I don't imagine I'll be on here much more (although, last summer, I wrote about a poem a day in class). Anyhow. Please please please know, though, that you are still in my thoughts and forever in my heart. And I'm excited about all the new writes of yours I've got to read!
