2006...Amor vincit omnia.

The phrase Love Conquers All (Latin - Omnia vincit Amor, or sometimes, amor vincit omnia) originally appeared in Eclogue X of the Eclogues, a series of poems by Virgil (70 BC - 19 BC). It is quoted in its Latin form by Geoffrey Chaucer in his description of the Nun Prioress in the General Prologue.

I live near the Murray River, where I go fishing. Lucky, aren't I? I play the piano and guitar, spend hours on my computer, garden, look after 3 chooks, paint, spend time with my family and write poetry.

I am an older Christian man, who likes to write his thoughts and feelings and hope that other people may share the experience. I have learnt a lot about poetry since I have been on AP. I enjoy every moment I am here.

I have made many friends in different countries and it is heart warming to share similar experiences as well as learn about the cultures of different lands. There are many differences from the wonderful lay back culture of Australia.

I am always looking for a new way to write and new ideas to express. My favourite poet is John Keats and I also enjoy William Wordsworth. James Henry Leigh Hunt [Old Poetry] is an ancestor of mine, 5X grandfather.

Since coming to AP, I have read more old poetry, and I have learnt to appreciate the modern poets we have here. I did not realise there was so much talent.

I wish you good fortune with your writing. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

    A Tribute to R S Adams Jr

People tell me I am humble but I'm really just a man
who would rather walk in your shoes or lend out a helping hand.
If you find that you're downhearted or you need to understand--
I am quiet but I'll help you if you ask me, if I can.

My experience in living's taught me that the world is wide
but the gap is not much wider than the friend who's by your side
for we all can bring each other much enrichment when we try
to be honest and not hurtful, to be patient, drop our pride.

Now I live in South Australia and I play guitar and I fish.
I have love of church and country, friends and family I relish.
You can find me at my daughter's where the coffee is delish
and I bake the scones each morning. Me? Retired? Don't I wish.

[this was supposed to sound like it was written in his own voice (2007). I came across it in my papers today and thought guests might like to read it]

It would be like witty Chaucer to put that phrase into the prioress' mouth, come to think of it!
