'Dear Pat,
You came upon my carving some kind of little figure out of wood and you said, "Why don't you make something for me?"
I asked you what you wanted, and you said, "A box."
"What for?"
"To put things in."
"What things?"
"Whatever you have," you said.
Well, here's your box. Nearly everything I have is in it, and it is not full. Pain and excitement are in it, and feeling good or bad and evil thoughts and good thoughts - the pleasure of design and some despair and the indescribable joy of creation.
And on top of these are all the graditude and love I have for you.
And still the box is not full.
John'

'I learned about life
from life itself,
love I learned in a single kiss
and could teach no one anything
except that i have lived'
(Part of Pablo Neruda's poem: 'Ode to a book')
'What is that feeling when you're driving away from people and they recede on the plain till you see their specks dispersing? - its the too-huge world vaulting us, and its good-by. But we lean forward to the next crazy adventure beneath the skies.' (Kerouac: On the road)
'I wake to a mausoleum; you are here,
Ticking your fingers on the marble table, looking for cigarettes,
Spiteful as a woman, but not so nervous,
And dying to say something unanswerable. '
(extract from The Rival: Sylvia Plath)
'Will it ever cloy? This odd diversity of misery and joy'
(From Mad about the boy: Dinah Washington)
'I never did, i never did, i never did like "now take care, dear!"
I never did, i never did, i never did want "hold my hand";
I never did, i never did, i never did think much of "Not up there, dear!"
It's no good saying it. They don't understand. '
(Indepedence: A. A. Milne)
I read this and I just thought it so entirely apt for me so I had to show everyone, it is a quote from Harlan Coben:
"Studying political science is a euphemism for 'I have absolutely no idea what I want to do with my life'" Humm... Could I be living out more of a cliched and quotable life?! Hehe
But now to be inkeeping with the majority of people here, a few quotes... May they brighten your day!
.Unrequited love is the only kind that lasts (Woody Allen)
..The eyes of others are our prsions; their thoughts our cages (Virginia Woolf)
...It is hard to remember that events now long in the past were once in the future (Maitland)
....Punctuality is the virtue of the bored (Evelyn Waugh)
.....Love is what happens when a man and a woman don't know each other (W. Somerset Maugham)
......Success is getting what you want; happiness is wanting what you get. (Anonymous)
.......Too much of a good thing is wonderful (Mae West)
I shall return with more as and when
