PollycheckShow poetry

I am a retired military man with 26 years in the Navy. I have 2 grown children and 4 grandchildren. I have been married to my wonderful wife for the last 37 years. My wife and I ran our own business (restaurant) for 10 years. I really don't have a writing style yet. I am still trying to find it. I write poetry for relaxation and enjoyment.

Poetry is a way for me to relax
On times however it pushes me to the max
Lovely verses sometimes I compose
Looking for ideas that give me repose
You never know what might pop into my mind
Could be a masterpiece or some junk undefined
Happy I am when it comes out in rhyme
Extremely excited when it comes out sublime
Can't help but wonder if I'll ever be good
Knowing that I might just be misunderstood

Here lies the Poet Pollycheck
Never liked him alive so what the heck
While trying to rhyme something bizarre
He walked in front of a speeding car
No rhyme did he find but now instead
The aspiring poet sadly is dead

DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Dear Polly, I haven't been on much the last 4 mo. due to a major home renovation (overhaul, facelift, whatever you want to call it) and gosh-darn it's still in session but I needed to take a break by venturing out for a short season to play. Just wanted to thank you for taking the time to visit and commenting on my work. You're such a good friend and fine poet as well. ♥ Belle
