I was walking my iguana (or should I say he was walking me),
he moseyed his way along the walk,
ignoring the whispers and stares.
They'd never seen an iguana walk me.
We walked for blocks and blocks.
He never slowed, never varied,
it soon became apparent to me ,
a destination was what he had in mind.
My iguana (Valentino, by the way),
did ignore all flowers galore.
No marigold or daisy, nor delicate pansy,
no rose or blossom could keep his desire.
Ah ha! I quickly spied what he was thinkin'.
A farmer's market was in session.
He quickly scampered, (a fair run for him)
I was having a hard time keeping up with his little limbs.
Then I saw it, I knew it must be true,
a basket of green beans, he'd climbed into.
In his haste to get to this, his item of taste,
green beans were scattered all over the place.
The farmer got mad and red in the face.
"Next time, walk your iguana some other place.", he yelled at me.
I tried to explain that my iguana walks me,
while he shook his head and
gave me a bag of green beans.
My iguana, (Valentino, by the way), continued to walk me.
Munching a green bean, he turned, looking at me with his reptilian
smile, as if to say,
"I'm done here, for awhile."

Merry Meet Pookiebubu,
Thank you and I'm glad you enjoyed it. My daughter (Bellatrix Lycanthrope) has a book by Silverstein. I saw the picture and the first line came to me and being a semi-bright person, I said "aha!" -
I just loved this, it was so well thought out...I could imagine walking with you both, so cool...this makes a wonderful childrens story poem and quite funny...it's so hard to get a laugh from poetry, so you did good...lots of luck.

This write reminded me of a Shel Silverstein write. Perhaps not the same rhyme scheme, but a similar story to what you might find in one of his books. This brought a smile to my face. Thank you for entering this fun little write, and good luck!

Merry Meet,
Thank you for your kind response. What areas would you suggest to take a closer look at? -
Hah! This would caption the picture you chose very well. There are some very funny lines throughout. Perhaps, just a little smoothing here and there would make this narrative a bit more poetic. Otherwise, it's a darling contender. Thank you for entering and welcome to the site!
