Sonora

Sonora

Hard pan
Her skin cracked and aged
Yet in the lines,
the crevices, is…
beauty

She is timeless, ageless
Older than the era of birth, and rebirth

She is the seed of spring, and the elder tree all at once
Your lover, mother, sister, daughter

She is bounty, in a land of desolation
She is desperation, in a time of hope

Hard pan
The pieces of a puzzle unsolved
She is the young woman, guised as the old lady
She whispers in the tongue of the quail
Cries in the heart of the lone coyote
She is nature, she is beauty, she is my desert

Sonora

Author notes

about my home in the Sonoran Desert in southwestern Arizona. I guess my week and a half trip home woke my muse.

smiles I've lived In Arizona. but it was in the nothern part yrs ago. still I could identify very well with what you were saying. One day I will see the Sonoran desert. I just moved from SW Colorado & remember listening to the coyotes every night. I did enjoy this! Keep penning on one stroke at a time!

A lovely word-painting of a place so dear to your heart. You know, I just LOVE deserts...they're like a woman...so much more than what meets the eye - mysterious, beautiful, eternal, natural and timeless! I can understand that the desert has awakened your muse - the desert is part of you, dear sis! Truly a lovely poem filled with such wonderful images and emotions - thank you for this!

Oh my goodness...Mom, this is the best one I think you've written. I love the pictures and the scenes and the memories it brings back in my mind. It really did bring tears to my eyes, your descriptions and details and wording...I love it. That's all there is to it.

Oh! that the Desert were my dwelling-place, With one fair Spirit for my minister, That I might all forget the human race, And, hating no one, love but only her!"
    ~ Lord Byron

Oh how lovely! I feel the same about New Mexico. And I
    feel for you.
You bring the desert to life. In so many ways.
    Blessings dear sis ~ criss
