I grew up on a farm left school at 15 to work on a farm so writing didn't figure high on my list of things I needed to be skilled at to do my work.
Loved reading and copied poems from cards and books, scribbled my own verses from about 12 yrs of age.
I joined a large site for the over fifties in 2007. It has a small forum for poetry where I met fellow poetry lovers and began to understand (with the help of one or two members) more about the structure of poetry and how to improve on what I write.
Critique however was not welcome by most who posted there, so here I am and hopefully here I'll stay.

suecat : Thankyou on October 30Thanks Pattiboo, for your kind remarks on my poetry. I am most impressed by yours too! I am definitely a cat person, have spent a huge amount of money on my cat Notso, 13, he has allergies and has had cancers removed from nose. Now I've taken on a stray female named Pumpkin (same shape and colour!) Two cats are becoming too much!!!
I'm curious about magpies in Great Britain - maybe they're not the same as in Australia?
Here they are black and white, have a beatiful melodic warbling song. Only in the nesting season (now) do they divebomb anyone who gets close to the nest. Here it is ravens that seem the disagreeable bird, taking the young of other birds, and scavenging rubbish bins etc.
Sorry, didn't mean this to become a treatise on bird behaviour! best wishes, keep writing! -

hugh wyles : Dear Pat, on August 25If I send you a compliment
it's very seriously meant
for any compliment from me
is not mere idle flattery.
and I am perfectly sincere
when I acclaim your sonnets here
which, out of all that I have seen.
establish you as "Sonnet Queen."
I'm sure that I shall never rue
the day that I discovered you
and, to implore you, here I stoop,
in hope you'll join my Favourites' Group.
Congratulations on having three successive sonnets included in the Wyleian Sonnet Collection.
With admiration, love and hugs, XXX Hugh.
