Why the name Open Eyes? Hmmm.... How to explain?
If I'm playing a video game and I'm just seconds from losing, I look away. If a softball is flying straight for my head, I put up my glove and close my eyes. If I'm driving, and a car looks like it's gonna hit me, I push the brakes and wince. If someone says something that hurts me, I lower my head or look away. If I see disaster coming, I cover my eyes with my hands.
And then, one day, I decided to try something. No matter how bad a situation seemed, I'd keep looking and keep trying, and guess what? Things started to go better. So my name is a reminder to myself. Things may look bad, but if I don't have my eyes open, I'm gonna miss out on the good things, the opportunities in life. I'm not gonna bury my head in the sand like an ostrich... I'm gonna keep my eyes open even when it's painful.
So Open Eyes isn't so much a description of me, as it is a description of what I hope to be.
