Old PoetryShow poetry

One day, a long time ago Kevin turned to Gecko to share his dream of what his vision could be, "Go forth," he said, "Find volunteers who love classical poetry, and make this dream come true."

Soon, there was a group who all believed in the dream and stone by stone, poet by poet, they laid the foundations. They were like early man when he first emerged from the jungle and gazed up at the moon, thinking one day I shall stand up there and touch the stars.'

Today we have reached that point, we have an amazing collection of poets and poetry, not just those who wrote in English, but poets and poetry from every corner of the Earth. The team who have made this dream come true have been many, they have spent hours searching the internet, the schools, the libraries and every source available for any scrap of information available to add to the site. Many have been lost to the real world but always someone has come along to take their place in creating the best poetry reference site on the internet.

And like mankind, we can stand on the moon but those stars still lie far from reach. Though with this new, clearer vision, we can see more clearly the stars, and each day we see new ones being born and whole constellations previously undiscovered, lie in our sights. Just as each day, with the world opening up and more information becomes available on each cultures poetic greats and new poets pass into the realms of old poets. We can see our dream is still far from completion, but the spirit which has driven us all still drives today.

Other than the rule about the time elapsing between a poet’s death and their work appearing on the Oldpoetry site, I wouldn’t like to be too prescriptive about how we post translations but I do feel that we should try to make things as clear as possible f

with the inkwell, new since last time I was here, I think.

Wordsworth? I'm a bit intimidated by him at the moment, by the contest anyway.

I wondered lonely as a cloud,
    fearful of Wordsworth's mighty shroud.

    Could be a start.

    Cheers
