NotaDeadPoet on November 8, 2006Thank you for your comments and, yes, the strict adherence to the form is intentional but the diverion from the strict content, i.e., the application of the separation of the volta from the problem, all of which I am all too well aware, i also intentional. As for the variation in sonnet 72, I'll have to review it now [pause]Ah, I see. No, it was not intentional, but I do call on my poetic licese to allow a trochaic substitute for an iambus. Otherwise, I would search for another ianbus and rework the line. But, the way it is works for the students for whom it was written in my re-write of Shakespeare's plays into contemporary English (1989 -200 lingo). In my last paragraph before the sample sonnets, I asserted my right to vary from the strict adherence to the "Known" form because I wanted the message to be more important than the form. I am not that much of a purist--at least not as much as I had been years ago.

hugh wyles on November 8, 2006Dear NaDP,
I have read your poems with interest and especially your column on sonnet writing on which I have commented at some length. I hope you will read some of my Wyleian and other sonnets as I will read yours. (Note: I may applaud but do not comment on contest poems.)
Keep up the excellent work. Regards, Hugh. -
Sierra on March 27, 2006Thank you so much for the comments! I have to say they are probably the most flattering I've ever received in my life, especially since you naturally know what you're talking about. Really meant a lot to this little South Texan girl =)
