"Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself,
(I am large, I contain multitudes.) "
Walt Whitman, "Song of Myself"

I am an eclectic writer who has lived many places and done many things. I am originally from New Hampshire, but I have since moved all over the place. I started writing in high school, sorta on a whim, but it stuck to me. Back then I used to like to write poetry that sounded like Lewis Carol. Then I started College. My poetry went all over the place there. I dabbled in free verse, open meter, and other such styles. I now write any way I please.

I am a follower of Christ. I am a Mormon girl. If you want to know about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, please go to www.mormon.org

I am the mother of a little girl with Autism. If you want to know more about that, read some of my poems about her, like Frusterated Joy or Angel Mine.

Okay: My favorite Poetry quotes. Hold on, there are alot.

"One of the ridiculous aspects of being a poet is the huge gulf between how seriously we take ourselves and how generally we are ignored by everybody else." Billy Collins

"I've written some poetry I don't understand myself." Carl Sandburg

"Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance." Carl Sandburg

"Poetry is the synthesis of hyacinths and biscuits." Carl Sandburg

"My poems are hymns of praise to the glory of life." Edith Sitwell

"Poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese."
G. K. Chesterton

"The worst tragedy for a poet is to be admired through being misunderstood." Jean Cocteau

"I was working on the proof of one of my poems all the morning, and took out a comma. In the afternoon I put it back again." Oscar Wilde

"Poetry is ordinary language raised to the Nth power. Poetry is boned with ideas, nerved and blooded with emotions, all held together by the delicate, tough skin of words." Paul Engle

"A poem is never finished, only abandoned." Paul Valery

"Poetry is language at its most distilled and most powerful." Rita Dove

"God is the perfect poet." Robert Browning

"Poetry is what gets lost in translation." Robert Frost

"A poem begins with a lump in the throat, a home-sickness or a love-sickness. It is a reaching-out toward expression; an effort to find fulfillment. A complete poem is one where the emotion has found its thought and the thought has found the words." Robert Frost

"To be a poet is a condition, not a profession." Robert Frost

"There's no money in poetry, but then there's no poetry in money, either." Robert Graves

"Genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood." T. S. Eliot

"Perhaps no person can be a poet, or can even enjoy poetry, without a certain unsoundness of mind." Thomas B. Macaulay

"Poetry is thoughts that breathe, and words that burn." Thomas Gray

"I would love to be the poet laureate of Coney Island."
Thornton Wilder, attributed

Only coming to your page to find your latest contest post, I have to tell you how I absolutely love the Carl Sandburg quotes you have posted. It was his very poem, that image of the "fog on little cat feet" that so impressed me as a child to this poetry-obsession today!

Glad I stopped by passing through on my way to your Contest Page...
