"Once she dreamed of romance, once she imagined she'd live in a castle, once she held the world in her hands, once was a long time ago, Far Far Away" - Blackmores Night - Far Far Away

I am a neo pseudo-romanticist living in the wrong century. My poetry usually reflects my continual internal battle. This battle is one I’ve struggled with for years, though I’ve only really become aware of it in recent months. It is a strange weakness where I am stuck in the grey area between the black and white, which is where I’d rather be. I don’t like it when things aren’t clear cut, but unfortunately it is something I have to accept!

I visualise a perfect world, like everyone else. A world without sexual immorality or the big one for me – materialism and greed. I try not to loose faith in that, but I struggle with my own demons. You may call me a hypocrite, I call myself a human, so don’t judge me.

I very rarely edit my poems. The poems submitted on here are more or less exactly the same as the day I finished them. To me, when someone edits a poem it is like a model. The photographer will capture her (or him) in glorious Technicolor, then proceed to Photoshop her to oblivion. He removes all of her blemishes, alters her physique, maybe even adding additional highlights to her hair. Has he perfected her? Or has he lost that RAW beauty that existed before? Has he actually taken away from the REALITY of that model? I think he has, and thus my poems are far from perfect, but they capture my emotion and my feelings at the time of writing in the most fundamental form.

I also enjoy reading, lots and lots. Mainly European classics and Latin texts (translating them is fun, in a weird way). I also read a lot of Dan Brown-style thrillers, though Dan Brown is probably the worst in the genre – Steve Berry and Sam Bourne are both worth checking out. I’m really not into fantasy, which surprises most people. Too many clichés, and that frustrates me, plus I think the standard of writing is irritatingly poor generally. I also think the majority of fantasy novels can be picked apart without a lot of effort. I do like science fiction though – Dune by Frank Herbert being my favourite.

Also like science, all of it. I study Geology with Marine Biology at Southampton University.

I like music, most genres. Mainly into symphonic metal, also love my classical, Celtic, rock, even like a bit of hip hop from time to time!

I also like socialising, a lot, but I crave seclusion sometimes, which is often hard to come by!

I am likely to be dead by the age of 30. This is due to a variety of things, one of them being that I like:

Saturated animal fats,
Beer (more beer, whisky, gin and tonics, wine, rum with lime and ice),
Lots of and lots and lots of caffinated beverages,
Biscuits,
Mars bars.

Combine this with the fact that coronary heart disease runs in our family my chances don't look great. I also enjoy doing stupid things like hiking in winter wearing sandals, swimming through arches (such as Durdle Dor in Dorset), cycling down gorges and attempting to get up the other side with the momentum, climbing precariously spindly trees and burning things.

Furthermore, careers that I am seriously looking into include: volcanology, offshore oil rig maintenance diver, offshore oil rig petrologist, polar marine palaeobiologist and being the-guy-that-gets-to-name-the-colours-for-the-Dulux-colour-chart.

I am the happiest guy on this planet.

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things which matter" - Martin Luther King Jr.

"Better to light a candle than to curse the dark"

"Peace cannot be kept with force, it can only be achieved by understanding" - Albert Einstein
