I believe poetry is a condensed and precise expression of emotions.
I write on impulse (most of the time). My proudest poetry moment was one to my mom for her birthday when I was 13. I think my mom still keeps it. *smile*
English is not my mother tongue so I work (and keep working) hard in putting my vocab together. I tend to write in simple wordings because of that, too. I believe that make me drill deeper into the other elements of poetry like imagery and phrasing.
Looking forward to learning Haiku and writing regularly. I have too many *stuff* trapped in that barred-by-reality brain of mine.
