I am a minor published poet. I post works here mainly for practice, and to test them out on my friends and other readers. Apart from that, what I would like most is peace of mind.

When I was ten I smashed a looking-glass

Deliberately – seven decades pain!

Since then, no matter how much I amass

by way of knowledge, not one whit I gain

of wisdom or enlightenment; and so

I’m further cursed – I sham sagacity

with ease! My saws, my epigrams, they flow

upon demand, and my capacity

for fooling others grows; I fool myself

the most – now I have started to believe

that I am wise; my tarnished, mental pelf

racks up, till there is nothing left to thieve.

I walk the jagged edge – part heretic,

part poet – spanning seer and lunatic!

My sweet Mairi, my “something unique”
Within the dark, I shall take a peek.
To hover over you with a smile,
And release the pain for awhile.
    Friendships grow within a moment,
When times are tough, energies spent.
So here I am, to spread some cheer,
Wishing you the best day, always my dear.

Hope you get to feeling better soon.
    Love, your

Oh, I like this page color far better. Or as they say here in my home town, "Mo betta"!
Hope all is well. Some of those things we discussed which I had been distressed about have been, if not overcome entirely, been ameliorated to a degree. I still have a long row to hoe, but will take it one day at a time.
Thanks for being there so many times.

At last - another Allpoetry member who shares my view that the time to put poems on the Allpoetry site is AFTER they have been published in what to me still seems the "real world" of ink on paper. Apart from a very few pieces of vers d'occasion (which of their nature are unsaleable), this is my practice.

I was brought up never to show unpublished work except to the editor(s) one hopes might publish it! As for "workshops" - NO WAY! I have only attended one once in my life - under pressure from a friend - read a poem, heard them tear it (metaphorically) apart ... and then told them oh-so-sweetly that I thanked them for their advice, but did not think I ought to alter the poem, as it was already in print - as the winning entry in a competition with quite a substantial (for those days) prize.

You may wonder then what I am doing in Allpoetry. I wonder myself... but every time I plan to phase out my activity here, someone does something (e.g. gifting me with a gold membership) that makes it difficult to leave.

Likewise - much as I love formal poetry - and have invented a few forms myself, and also introduced some forms from other poetic traditions into English, I do agree with you about the Allpoetry focus on new forms that do nothing to enhance the impact of the subject...

Sorry if this seems a strange message - but I wanted to express my fellow-feeling with your ideas... And I am feeling very exhausted at the moment - a combination of an all-too-slow rate of recovery from cancer, plus the "post-partum" weariness of having had two major books published in the past few weeks!
