  Distortion

by: Paul Rowley

Lookin' and lookin' in a full length mirror,

What is she tryin' to see?
A reflection of who she thinks she is,

And who she would like to be.

But the mirror's distorted, it's old and warped

And the view that comes to her eyes

Is not quite the one she's expectin' to see,

Cause she's wearin' a new disguise.

The make up is clever, the clothing unique,

It hides and it changes what's seen.

But this mirror sees what's really inside,

No matter what's in between.

Disguises don't work, they're a waste of time,

They don't show in this reflection.

It reveals the details you just can't hide,

Cause this mirror gives no protection.

So stand straight and tall and peer at the glass,

And see what is there to see.

The reflection there shows just what you are,

And not what you think you might be.

Renikins, also wrote me this beautiful piece:

To You

I saw the beauty that shined in suns

And the beauty that radiated from stars.

And when the moon sang

The bells of beauty rang.

But I saw dark skies morph to blue

When they sang songs of you.

Songs that dripped of harmony

Shattered the doors of the cacophony

That was wrapped around a girl’s life.

You knew all sorts of sadness

And you knew all sorts of pain

You laughed in the face of tears

And held chins through out the years.

But you never saw the beauty in you face –

You thought beauty was small bodies in lace

And pretty little dresses shaping each curve

And only those bodies would deserve

To be labeled beautiful.

Here’s a secret I never told:

I’d trade my every curve and every shape

To be granted with a heart like yours

So with a smile I too may end people’s wars.

And to shine in beauty that’s true.

Oh, how I wish I was you.

To hold and nurture a heart of gold

And keep a beauty that never grows old.

Love you, doll!
