"With my shield or on it."
This is the oath that soldiers going into battle would say. Their shield was really heavy and if youre carrying it you cant run with it because its so heavy so you would have to leave it at the battle if you were to run from the battle. If you came home without it they would know that you ran from battle and that you showed cowardness. It was supposed to be a major dishonor to come home without your shield. So the soldiers would take the oath, and since they used the shields to carry the dead, they would say "I will come home, with my shield or on it"
"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."
--Eleanor Roosevelt
Eleanor Roosevelt was the wife of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. She was an extraordinary woman of her time and is still considered one today. These words of wisdom were spoken in truth. This is a very important quote to remember in every day life and I always try to, because there are people in the world who will try to put you down, but remember, as Eleanor Roosevelt said, "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."
"Not all who wander are lost." --J.R.R. Tolkien
"All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
--Gandalf the Grey (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring)
You are not able to decide how much time we are given, but Gandalf answers what we do get to decide.
"Enjoy things for what they are, not for how long they last." --Me
"There are no coincidences, everything happens for a reason." --My Family
"Miracles do not, in fact, break the laws of nature."
"No one ever told me that grief felt so like fear."
"We are what we believe we are."
--C.S. Lewis
"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious."
--Albert Einstien
"Life is a movie, and you are the director." --Me
This is very true, but unfortunatly, you can't always choose the scenes and events in your movie. You can, however, direct many, many other things in your movie.
"Law is reason, free from passion."
"A true friend is one soul in two bodies."
"Hope is a waking dream."
--Aristotle
"All that we see or seem is all but a dream within a dream."
"With me poetry has not been a purpose, but a passion."
--Edgar Allen Poe
"Love can build a bridge." --The Judds
This is a lyric and the title of a song that the Judds (Wynona, Ashley, and their mother) all sang on the day their mother announced that she would retired from singing because of a serious illness she had. This is a very powerful song, and I encourage other people to listen to it and pay attention to the words. It is true, no matter what you go through, "Love can build a bridge" and help you get through your tough time.
"Bye and bye, bye and bye,
The moon is half a lemon pie,
The mice who stole the other half,
Have scattered star crumbs in the sky.
Bye and bye, bye and bye,
My darling babies, don't you cry,
The moon is still above the hill,
And soft clouds gather in the sky."
--A song from "The Rainbabies"
My favorite authors include J.R.R. Tolkien, J.K. Rowling, and C.S. Lewis.
My favorite books are the Harry Potter books, The Chronicles of Narnia series, any book by J.R.R. Tolkien, and, of course, my childhood favorite, "The Rainbabies".
My favorite movies would have to be "The Black Cauldron" and "The Ghost and The Darkness", "The Preacher's Wife", "The Bodyguard", and most of the Disney classic movies.
I am very fascinated with tools, history, swords, and anything dealing with pirates.
When I'm not writing poetry or short stories, I am either reading a book or I am outside either in my vegetable garden, doing yardwork, swimming, or I am at my little brother's baseball games. (Go Tigers!!)
I am a huge movie buff and can even pick out flaws in some movies. I also listen to all kinds of music (with the exception of rap) from oldies (ex: The Temptations, The Beach Boys, etc.) to country (ex: George Strait, Chris Cagel, etc.) to classical (ex: Mozart, Tchaikovsky, etc.) and I even listen to bands and groups such as: Three Doors Down, Creed, and maybe one song by Nickleback.
"I believe there are angels among us, sent down to us, from somewhere up above, they come to you and me in our darkest hours, to show us how to live, to teach us how to give, to guide us with the light of love.... they wear so many faces, show up in the strangest places, grace us with their mercy in our time of need....oh I beleive there are angels among us, sent down to us, from somewhere up above, they come to you and me, in our darkest hour to show us how to live, to teach us how to give, to guide us with the light of love.....to guide us with the light of love."
