The Painter

I am not an artist
Neither a Rembrandt nor Monet
For I do not illustrate
Scenes of natural beauty
Or the majestic tricks of light
I am but a simple painter
With only one work in mind
My canvas is my pale wrist
My brush a silver blade
And with careful strokes
I conjure forth
Colors both
Bold and dark
That trickle forth across my skin
Gently weaving
Their placid winding streams
But art
Like all things beautiful
Is but a fleeting scene
And only once shall I produce
This timeless masterpiece
