**************************** QUOTES OF SANITY **************************
The true worth of a man is to be measured by the objects he pursues.
- Marcus Aurelius
What a man is contributes much more to his happiness than what he has, or how he is regarded by others.
- Arthur Schopenhauer
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children...,to leave the world a better place...,to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
Who is the happiest of men? He who values the merits of others, and in their pleasure takes joy, even as though t'were his own.
- Johann von Goethe
Every heart that has beat strongly and cheerfully has left a hopeful impulse behind it in the world, and bettered the tradition of mankind.
- Robert Louis Stevenson
No pleasure philosophy, no sensuality, no place nor power, no material success can for a moment give such inner satisfaction as the sense of living for good purposes, for maintenance of integrity, for the preservation of self-approval.
- Minot Simons
Man's greatest actions are performed in minor struggles. Life, misfortune, isolation, abandonment and poverty are battlefields which have their heroes - obscure heroes who are at times greater than illustrious heroes.
- Victor Hugo
Remember that if the opportunities for great deeds should never come, the opportunities for good deeds are renewed day by day. The thing for us to long for is the goodness, not the glory.
- F.W. Faber
If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.
- Martin Luther King, Jr.
Conscience is the root of all true courage; if a man would be brave let him obey his conscience.
- James Freeman Clarke
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
- William Morrow
I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong.
- Abraham Lincoln
Make yourself an honest man, and then you may be sure that there is one less scoundrel in the world.
- Thomas Carlyle

So great has been the endurance, so incredible the achievement, that, as long as the sun keeps a set course in heaven, it would be foolish to despair of the human race.
- Ernest L. Woodward

The Church says the earth is flat, but I know it is round, for I have seen the shadow on the moon, and I have more faith in a shadow than in the Church.

NICKELS AND DIMES
An ear was lost in taking him, he mended it, it's told
Goodly did he walk the earth, a kind and gentle soul
In casting stones he offered yet another kindly quote
Frequent see account of him, and never anger spoke
Wait, never? No, not never. Seems once I do recall,
Temper flared like madman, peoples fled him, awed
Money changers on temple grounds, to look on this, he raged
It gives me pause to wonder why, was it fall from grace?
Or had wealth and profit trespassed, gold shown to defile?
Do needles’ eye and camel loom, show wealth an evil style?
It would seem He wanted brotherhood, a Family of Man
Almighty Dollar set him off, seems Father would demand
I must wonder if you can see, as well, this redefining sin?
Is there sting in asking, "What’s in your pocket, friend?"
Money cast out in the streets might work out for the best
Our worth nevermore to hang on trinkets we possess
This is what I pray for, that we learn what values more
No merit can be credited for things that you can horde
Worth is what’s inside you, and merit only gained by deed
You cannot buy what matters, it must be learned, believed
