Keith E. GerberShow poetry

I am a cancer survivor with an optomistic attitude. I was diagnosed on July 23rd 1992 and given a year to live. I was told that only 15% of people with my type and level of cancer live over one year and only 5% live 15 years. I was also told that I would have to have my leg amputated. I still have both legs and feel great. Doctors are not always right. I have three kids now and love every minute of my life. I have all I want because I am not a greedy person. All I ever wanted was a wife, 3 kids, a home, a dog, a guitar, and a reliable vehicle. I have all of that and more. I have been called God's hackey-sack because of all of the trials I have faced but I have always been able to see the brighter side of things and I suppose that is the secret to my survival. Thank you for taking the time to read my poems. I wish you the best.

Words

Contorted forms of linguistic phrase,
Pieced and matched in particular ways.
Thrown about and scattered like the stars above,
Descriptive of things such as hatred and love.
Alphabetical acrobats in specific ways folded,
As if lingual artists have sculpted and molded.
Hammered together in particular fashion,
Bringing to light a new idea or passion.
Phonetic projectiles aimed at one single objective;
Mapping out thought to put into perspective.
Pieced together in an orderly formation,
Traveling toward their literary destination.
Syllables scribed in forms new and old,
Assembled just right helping sentiments be told.
Thrown down like a verbal game of jacks,
Laid upon one another like potatoes in sacks.
Consonants placed amidst vowels in synchronic style,
Aiding one another in ways versatile.
Squeezed collectively into harmonious verse,
Assisting us as we communicate and converse.

Never forget that the minute we are born we are dieing,
It is just the maybe knowing when that fears us the most.

Inspirational story of winning the battle. I can't wait to read your writings.
  • MercedesBbenz : You are like Edgar Allen Poe on August 11
but better. I am in love with your poetry and I love the fact that they rhyme. Rhythmical poetry is my favorite. I also read your page today and saw that you survived cancer. I am terribly sorry to hear that you went through that and I am very glad to know you are still alive. If my grandma hadn't had broken her hip and been taken off of chemo, she would still be alive today :`(
