Just words.
- Poetry is just words, unless written with the emotion it is to describe. You cannot write words of depression, unless you are depressed. You cannot write words of Hate, unless you hate. Erotic words can only be written while aroused. Sadness with sadness, fear with fear, humor while laughing. And one cannot write words of Compassion, without Love.
In my years I have learned, the old saying: Life is a mirror, is true. Smile and it smiles back. Frown, and it returns the frown. We have the incredible power to choose our emotions. Why settle for the darkness when you can have Light.

I'm among the many people in the world who collect books.
I must admit, I've not read them all; not even half. It's just something about having access to hundreds of398 lines, 7 comments, August 14, 2002. In <200 lines, Other -

backlog on April 1, 2006If I could applaud and author page I would. I've never read such an apt summary of poetry.
I have to browse the contests page for what seems like hours just to find one that suits my mood - because otherwise it's impossible to write something natural/flowing as an entry.
Bravo, anyway,

JustWords on March 12, 2006Okay, one more thing. I consider myself to be a pretty good writer. But like you, I couldn't find the language to do it. Then I spent a few years reading some of the classics; and lo and behold, I saw how they did it. I have a good friend who is a very adept artist. He has spent many hours copying some of the Masters paintings, so he would learn how they overcame the problems, we as viewers never see. It has improved his work immensely. Take time to read, watch and listen. If you are only 39 years old, you are only half way through Life. Enjoy it. You deserve it! Dwaine

duana on March 12, 2006Dwaine, that is probably the most level headed insightful, get to the heart of the matter, revolutionize my thinking, comment I have ever read. Thank you. You must have been sent by fate, lol. Seriously, I just love the 'darkness is not who we really are'. I NEVER thought of it that way before.
I have tried writing about happy things, and when I get inspired, I do....which is why you see in my writing glimpses of the light, but I have an extremely hard time otherwise writing anything but my sadness....however, you have revolutionized my perception, and perhaps that will help me. Though I have to admit even when I feel truly inspired to write about beautiful things, or convictions, I can never find the language to do it in. Thanks for the inspiration....maybe this will take a turn...
