JimmyCognitionShow poetry

Bios have always intimidated me a little bit. I do a lot of theater, and my show-to-show bio is rarely longer than a few words which usually make no sense. I think my bio for Death of a Salesman was "fear sandworms".

I won't bother telling you about me, but I will tell you my influences and my beliefs (in regards to poetry, at least). First and foremost among them is this grave maxim: Nuts to Grammar. I know many, many poets who are good but could be great if they only dared to take our language in their mental mits and bend it around a bit, you know?

Yea, Groovy.

Anyway, I really dig Kool Keith and Snoop Doggy Dogg- I find that rappers are willing and able to surf the seas of Slangworld and give us something novel and alive. I also dig the (in my opinion) fathers of rap, the old icelandic warrior poets. Good 'ole Gunnlaug Serpent-Tongue and Hallfred Troublesome-Poet, riding on their enemies and kickin' ass with verse, yea.

I haven't been writing much "serious" poetry lately, but my favorite "serious" poet is William Wordsworth...he knew how to tug a heartstring. Zora Neale Hurston and Langston Hughes also hold special places in my cold dead heart. Thanks for readin'...I love honesty, so please use it.

...someone had a dream that you were selling snow cones in New Zealand and not wearing any clothes..... no names mentioned, of course.

hahah I'd like to add that the comment above mine is really lame. Am I allowed to say that?

    I think I just did.

just a little note to say why i like to read poet's bios.

what i like about what people post on their page is their influences. and their thoughts on why they write poetry and how they go about doing it. i also like to read a little about the poet's achievements.

it's interesting for me to see that so many people on this site list their favourite bands or their fave poets at AP. It fascinates me that not that many (that I have seen) give many examples of their poetic influences or the poems or poets who inspire them to write poetry.

    anyway, best wishes,
    myron.

This poets deserves lots of things. I don't know what. But he's pretty super fab, in my humble opinion.
