I'm a history graduate of WWU, WA as of Spring 2008! Yeah! Among my many hobbies, including poetry, are knitting, reading, hiking, watercolor painting, and my all-time favorite: Civil War Reenacting. I'm in the 26th NC Infantry of the WCWA (www.wcwa.net), representing the only known female soldier of the regiment.
Since many have asked, I've written a few prose pieces in my lifetime, but did not seriously take up writing poetry until this year as a sort of therapy. I learned, like Emily Dickinson, to start by writing poetry according to hymn meter, aka by syllables. This came easily from my experience in the convent as a nun of transferring various writings to metered hymns. I took off from there, and have my own variations, some so off-style that you may consider them Whitmanesque poems - they have no rhyming style. They are actually more like prose. To be honest, I NEVER REALLY STUDIED POETRY in forms and writing. My name for my style is 'raw poetry,' and to that end, that is going to be the title of my poetry book. That being said, enjoy!
