Choices
If I have missed being angry
then I have opened my mind to the possibilities that
broaden my acceptance for the differences between us
And I have gained control over my own choices
and I have lost fear
If I have missed passing judgment
then I have opened my mind to the possibilities that
broaden my acceptance for the differences between us
And I have gained insight into my own circumstances
and I have lost conceit
If I have missed being unfair
then I have opened my mind to the possibilities that
broaden my acceptance for the differences between us
And I have gained the sense of justice
and I have lost prejudice
If I have missed segregation
then I have opened my mind to the possibilities that
broaden my acceptance for the differences between us
And I have gained a friend
and I have lost loneliness
If I missed opening my mind to the possibilities that
broaden the acceptance for the differences between us
Then I have gained nothing
and I have lost my humanity

love, life, and family
treasured moments
we have known
Memories paint Monet’s
on the canvas of our minds
composed one by one
throughout the years of time
Of holidays and gatherings
and places we have been
of weekends spent with family
and late night chats with friends
Redolent are the dreams
reminiscent, in which we dared
and tears of sorrowed moments
for which we all have shared
Memories throughout our lifetime
have kept us close in thought
for it is the love in our journey
