Here are some absolute truths about me. My real name is Jane. My land of origin is Louisiana. I teach French and Spanish. I have given birth to 3 children. I reside in a state of cultural exile.
I write poetry as a mental exercice, to express the inacccuracy of breathing, to remember my roots and enroot my existence. I love to read as well and that is the real reason why I post poems here in Allpoetry.
The poetic saga of my life:
"I started writing poetry at the age of 8. I brought my writings to my mother. She smiled and threw them away... when I wasn't looking. When I reached the age of 16, I asked her to tell me what she thought of my poems. She told me it was no way to make a living and I had alot of living to do. When I was 24, I showed her another poem and she asked me why I didn't write about the times and spaces that I knew. At 32 I was still trying to find that time and place. At 40 I stopped writing poems for my mother. At 48 I started writing poems for poets to read on Allpoetry."
Thanks for all the critques and comments. They help a lot!

Above is a group I've recently formed together in conjuction with jaunty pill for writers we believe are talented and deserve to be part of a community of other inspiring and creative poets.
We hope you decide to join.

I was just thinking the very same thing the other day because for me it would require putting poetry first and work second which would be a nice change. I think I need the introspection.
So I will read your poem everyday and It better be there! or else, or else what I enlist people to haggle you. and you can do the same for me. Beware this is only a week away
We could even start a club... -
Prism on April 23, 2006well guess what. i am SERIOUSLY considering doing the poem a day for the month of may again! i feel like it would help my creative writing come ack, since it's been a tad dry this past year.
i may not faithfully post every day, but i will have those around me hold me accountable so i don't slip each day.
it's be an honor if you would join me in this poetic endeavor to grace the world with our wonderful poetry... hmmm... maybe not quite like that, but you know.
i haven't decided yet.. oh how indecisive i can be! -
Geneva on April 21, 2006Thank you for the compliment.
I have been writing poetry for a long time with inconsistent results; perhaps because I have little faith in my talents, perhaps because I refuse to starve to death as most poets do. However I remain ambitious through it all.
This confession conjures the image of my older brother. He is mentally retarded and remains 5 years old in his mind despite his 60 years and incontinence.
Some poet wrote somewhere in rather impoverished and awkward style: "Life is a mystery like that"
Oh yeah that was me!
