If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.
-Emily Dickinson

Poet
I am a woman with strong beliefs and a strong focus on what I want to accomplish in life. I worked as a graphic artist for a year and a half, but now work at PetCo as a Reptile Specialist. I also have my own business breeding and selling reptiles. When I can I volunteer at a dog and cat shelter.
My one dream is to start an animal sanctuary as I know my calling is to save and help animals of all kinds. I want to save animals from euthanasia and poor conditions in shelters (especially pitbulls) as well as from abusive and neglectful owners.
I do not believe in an animal overpopulation problem. I believe in the closed arms of human beings. Rather than controlling the population of animals, I think we should try to increase the population of pet owners!
For me, writing is mostly a form of escape but also a way of expressing myself. I am not a people person and writing is easier than talking.
I have had poetry published in a few small places and some online magazines. I have also won two state poetry awards, one for 1st Honorable Mention and the second for 1st place.

Poetry
My writing is, for the most part, formal. I write in rhyme and meter and occasionally write lyrics. My inspiration comes, as all inspiration ultimately does, from things I have experienced and seen. But my pieces do not all convey my personal feelings and they often fall into the realm of fantasy.
As far as free verse goes I agree with Robert Frost who said you may as well play tennis with the nets down. I honestly abhor most free verse and though there are times where I may enjoy a piece for it's imagery, metaphors, concept, message, etc., there is never a time where I do not believe the same would have been immensely better if written with rhyme (with the exception of purposeful blank verse).
Some of my favorite poets (in no particular order) are Edgar Allen Poe, Robert Browning, William Butler Yeats, Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, Shakespeare, John Clare, George Gordon Byron, John Masefield, Thomas Moore, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, A E Housman, and Sir Walter Scott.

Julius Caesar and the Honey-bee
Poring on Caesar's death with earnest eye,
I heard a fretful buzzing on the pane:
"Poor bee!" I cried, "I'll help thee by-and-by";
Then dropped mine eyes upon the page again.
Alas I did not rise; I helped him not:
In the great voice of Roman history
I lost the pleading of the window-bee,
And all his woes and troubles were forgot.
In pity for the mighty chief, who bled
Beside his rival's statue, I delayed
To serve the little insect's present need;
And so he died for lack of human aid.
I could not change the Roman's destiny;
I might have set the honey-maker free.

A FEW OF MY FAVORITE QUOTES 1 "How do you pick of the threads of an old life? How do you go one when in your heart you begin to understand? There is no going back. Iliad Keys on October 9Frodofan! How are you? It's been ages since I've visited AP! Though I stopped writing poetry for a while, I didn't stop writing. I spent about two years focussing on essays and narrative. But my pen as turned again to poetry, the purest of languages. I'm glad to see you are still here, and I've been meaning to reread two of my favorites of yours: the winter's road poem and the epic you wrote with Lone Defender. Though I'll be sure to check up on your newest writings too!

Lone Defender : ... on October 9Glad to wake up each day, and whetting the literary axe for a swing at Arthurian prose in a fireside bards' competition. How's milady?

Lindelos on October 6I don't know what it is, but blogger won't let me comment on your posts which makes me very sad, as I would have liked to express my love for Con Air as well, and how adorable Dodgy is. I hope you're loving your job!
