FransBShow poetry

Before introducing myself, I would like to sincerely thank Ken [aka Idle Mind Wondering] for valuable time spent to design this background for me. It dipicts so much of my life's path here at the foot of Africa. Please take moments in time to read his work at:

There are a couple of words that I fear to use, and one of them being 'poet'. I prefer to reserve this for those who truly are. However, in joining Allpoetry, it has awakened something in me.

All my life I have taken a keen interest in people around me, and ended in doing what I love – enabling others. I am far from being perfect, and each day is a journey in learning. Much of this is gained from three precious persons in my life, Amor, my wife, who has given her life as a Missionary to serve children of South Africa, Seugnet my precious eldest daughter [currently a third-year student in education], and my youngest, Hanlie my soft-hearted yet ‘group-loving' one [see http://allpoetry.com/poem/4149693] who has just completed the Human Movement Science degree and now in the middle of her BA Honours Human Movement Science degree. Then, those that I teach, and especially those that journey with me on their path towards a post-graduate qualification in Group Dynamics.

I have wonderful loving friends – some of them my teachers of the past – whom I owe much gratitude.

My motto is that I cannot be me without you! And, so each contribute towards me being Me. I salute you all!

I have a few academic books to my credit, but my life’s journey of discovering and enabling Growing within yourself is a much treasured book - a salutation to the Lord who created me. As an instrument of God, and follower of Jesus, I have been enabled to develop a model to encourage growth within in others.

I have now through kind assistance from Myrataal of KREATIV brought out my first book of poems. Not having many poems to choose from for this edition, I decided to enter all the poems that I had written over my first 2 months at AP - I will hopefully one day see my growth. It looks stunning! Thanks to KREATIVE [Myra and Org]. The title: Firefly Glow, and it is based on an idea from one of my poems and a photo taken of a Cape Town site [Campsbay] at early evening by Tony Clarke a student of mine.

My thanks to many poets on AP that have given time to provide well-meaning comments, and to those that have allowed me to enter into their contests. Unlike some with so many awards, I have a few of which I am extremely proud! To all of you who will ‘walk the poetic way’ with me, I thank you.

The fourth edition of my book: A reader on selected social issues has arrived on my desk. Sixteen chapters are devoted to various social problems / issues ranging from family disorganisation to environmental issues. For the first time I have presented a poem as an orientation to each chapter, and hope by doing this, to motivate others to 'poem out their thoughts and experiences' on social issues, as they not only impact on family life and society as a whole, but also on the life of the individual. This book can be ordered at: http://www.vanschaiknet.com/catalogue_view.asp?theID=345

An enjoyable entry into my life is presenting a number of workshops with Myra Lochner [aka myrataal]. While I specialise in 'self-empowerment', she in 'endopathy'. Our models compliment each other, and there is a true awakening among those that attend these workshops. Please visit her site at:

I have now written my 300th poem! On 6 June 2007 I placed my first poem on AP. At least, that is what I call it. I have tried a number of forms, but enjoy free style / form the most. A number of individuals have listed me as their favourite. I am honoured by this. Mostly, this has run into a wonderful friendship, and this is of greater importance to me. I also have a number of favourites, and I not only enjoy their poems, but they are of great help. Their supportive guidance is wonderful. I will always cherish this.

The Pearlcon: a new poem form?
I do not know if I have a new poem form here, and would appreciate your comments. In the meantime, I have coined this free style poem form ‘The Pearlcon’.

The Pearlcon
• A three free style stanza form
• Stanza one: serves as an orientation [2 – 3 lines]
• Stanza two: poses a question related to the orientation [1 – 2 lines]
• Stanza three: provides an answer in question form with emphasis on a positive outcome [principle or thought; spiritual or non-spiritual] [3 – 4 lines]
• Important:
o the poem must relate nature to the human condition or vice versa
o each stanza must link nature with human nature / condition
o Stanza two and three must portray the human condition within imagery of nature and the final stanza must depict a positive outcome [principle of healing]

Here follows an example:

Sundown on Smiles
… and within the dusk of nightfall,
twilight seems to weave a collage of despair.

Why then that when the sun fades
smiles enter into sundown?

Is there not the knowing
that within the composition of dawn
Hope has always been there?

In writing poems, one sometimes make discoveries. While I do not think that the Isson as I call it may be perceived as a new form, I did enjoy figuring it out and writing some more poems since discovering it. Here is what it is about:

The focus is to create a link between self-action and other-action, as indicated in the following poem:

Demise

planted,
buried within life –
the self grows,
towards demise;

Stanza 1: 4 lines
verb
followed by description that denotes two opposites of the verb
a description of the self
with a possible outcome

but, only
when failing
to forget, the self,
in others -

Stanza 2: 4 lines
a reason should be given why this will transpire
linking the self to others

therefore,
those, who forget
human rights,
also forget
their self

Stanza 3: 5 lines
the warning
linked to a social issue
and consequence for self

Your comments and guestbook messages are always appreciated.

Thank you for visiting my page.
God bless,
Frans
