Along the blade's silver blade, many symbols are etched into it, though they are unseen by the naked eye. If any other creatures besides Thyst were to touch it, the enchantments would release a Shaded Dragon upon the creature killing it or forcing it to let go and leave the blade be.

The sword to act as a "Living Weapon" (( Imith 'A E Der Khul'Shalkrum)), and he has never used this, for never has he needed it. The blade has the power to release a Shadow Dragon of immense power and strength, which is something of a last minute attack and last hope for survival (( Imith 'A E Der 'A Sear )).

He gains his strength through the Elemetic symbols on his sword, something of his past before reconnecting with his brother and family. They are of every aspect of life, death, and other elements of being and aid him. They are located now on his sword, once having been tattooed on his body.

His stone is that of Amethyst, hence his name.
