I just read some of your stuff not bad, half asleep though so a little lazy on the commenting side. Just thought I'd add to what k-dense said. It's not necessarily how many entries you should check for, it's the host of the contest. If you're interested in a contest check out the comments the host usually leaves and see if they're here just to support their friends or have a genuine interest in poetry.

The only advice I can give you on this site is "Don't enter contest with broad rules or excessive entries."

    1) When contests say something like, "I want love poems!" they're more likely to attract attention than "I want love poems with a very complicated twist or specified requirement within the work you post."

    2) Many hosts have a habit of not readign all their entries. If you enter a contest with 12 entries, you're more likely to get read than entering one with 50, no matter how good your work is.

Thanks for the comments and please feel free to read on.
