First and foremost, I'd like to say that I write for myself--to preserve memories, feelings, and thoughts in a form where I can re-enter what is normally locked up in my head. My concern is almost always not with style, which is why almost all the poems are crap (though I do like a line here or there). What is important to me is the atmosphere and the message, though that message is almost always to myself. I'm content if my poems are never read, as they're personal mementos of my life lived, but I always appreciate recognition of these mementos or critical feedback.
Why do I post my poetry here? Well, I used to record poems in journals or random scraps of paper (most commonly index cards) but many of them got lost or misplaced. I then started recording new poems and archiving old ones in various places online so I can save them and access them anywhere, but I could never make up my mind where to keep them, so they ended up everywhere, often hidden where they wouldn't be found. I stumbled across this site and since then, this has been the place for practically all of my poetry to live. I don't really anticipate anyone reading this or my poems.
