DrAwkward79Show poetry

I am an intermittent writer. I've been writing poetry since I was probably 15 years old. I don't adhere to guidelines, and I don't try to please anyone with my writing. My poems come from whatever emotions that I feel at the moment of the conception of the poem. Some are written for specific people, some are reactions to movies I've seen, some are inspired by songs, and some are just me being me.

I do not do this professionally, but I do like comments, so please leave them whether you hate my writing or love it. . . I won't take it personally, because, frankly, the poems mean something to me and I don't expect them to do the same for everyone.

I'm new to this site, so I'm still trying to figure everything out. . . Feel free to add me as a friend or suggest other stories/poems/groups you think I might be interested in.

Some of my favorite quotes and things:

"Animals have these advantages over man: they never hear the clock strike, they die without any idea of death, they have no theologians to instruct them, their last moments are not disturbed by unwelcome and unpleasant ceremonies, their funerals cost them nothing, and no one starts lawsuits over their wills. "

-Voltaire

"The National Rifle Association says that, "Guns don't kill people, uh, people do." But I think, I think the gun helps. You know? I think it helps. I just think just standing there going, "Bang!" That's not going to kill too many people, is it? You'd have to be really dodgy on the heart to have that."

-Eddie Izzard

This is your captain speaking. Welcome aboard flight one from here to there. We'll be cruising at a height of ten feet, going up to twelve and a half feet if we see anything big. And our copilot today, is a flask of coffee.

-Eddie Izzard

True love can't be found to where it does not truly exist. Nor can it be hidden where it truly does.

-Francois de La Rochefoucauld

"You know what I'm going to get you next Christmas, Mom? A big wooden cross, so that every time you feel unappreciated for your sacrifices, you can climb on up and nail yourself to it."

-Kevin Spacey's character Lloyd from "The Ref"

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

-J.R.R. Tolkien

“People think it must be fun to be a super genius, but they don't realize how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world.”

-Calvin & Hobbes

“We must come to the point where we realize the concept of race is a false one. There is only one race, the human race.”

-Dan Aykroyd

“You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.”

-Dr. Seuss

“Men honor what lies within the sphere of their knowledge, but do not realize how dependent they are on what lies beyond it”

Chuang Tzu

"I've learned that all a person has in life is family and friends. If you lose those, you have nothing, so friends are to be treasured more than anything else in the world."

-Trey Parker and Matt Stone

“Happiness is the absence of the striving for happiness.”

-Chuang Tzu

I carry your heart with me
by: e e cummings

I carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

Anything Can Happen
by Shel Silverstein

Listen to the Mustn'ts,child,
Listen to the Don'ts
Listen to the Shouldn'ts
The Impossibles, the Won'ts
Listen to the Never Haves,
Then listen close to me --
Anything can happen, child,
Anything can be.

"Unless it is mad, passionate, extraordinary love, it’s a waste of time. There are too many mediocre things in life—love should not be one of them."
