*The basics about me, just so you can get a feel for the person whose writing you are reading ... *
-Name: aura with an L.
-Age: 17
-Education: Senior in high school
-Occupation: Wage-slave at For Your Entertainment, a music store in the mall/sinkhole of the universe until I get let go/fired
-Location: Carroll Country, Maryland, a horrible little hick town famed for its dairy farms and intolerance.
-Dream Job: A writer; what else?
-Education Plans: Literary Arts school, probobly this school I found in Pittsburg, Carlow. Nice little place with a major in Creative Writing. I'm there.
-Afterschool Activities: Quintessence (a literary magazine with some really ::cough:: underqualified members and editors whose souls are owned by marching band) GSA, Agnostics Accepted, Young Democrats ... You can tell the Irish-Catholic place I'm planning to go to college at is going to love me.
-Pets: 2 kitties that I love more than ... my brother and sister.
*And now, the stuff that makes me who I am...*
I've been writing for ... as long as I can remember. I remember some morbid horror story about a werewolf I wrote for Halloween when I was in 1st grade in a Catholic school, and I'm sure there were stories before that.
Most of my stories are about vampires and other such creatures, some kind of love, and at least one person dies in pretty much every one of my stories. Some would call me morbid, but, hey, I can't control what my characters decide to do, y'know. There's pretty much always some love story at the heart of my stories (ohhhh, did you catch the pun ... ::kills puns:: ) , because I guess I need to start finding better ways to hold things together. But I'm slowly coming to accept the fact that I am a "romantic horror author." I guess that means that subconsciously I am scared of love and will only accept it if someone dies and comes back from the dead to tell me they love me. In your face, Freud!
My favorite authors are V. C. Andrews, Anne Rice, Clive Barker, H. P. Lovecraft, Poppy Z. Brite, Neil Gaiman, Edgar Allen Poe, Stephan King, Emily Bronte, Sheridan Lafenue, Bram Stoker ... and whoever's stories I like in the horror anthologies I pick up.
Horror is probobly the genre I'm most into because I feel that it can never be boring and you don't need to "specialize" in any kind of field to be scared. You can be romantic and like romantic stories (or smut and slash), you can be intergalactic and like science fiction, etc. But fear knows no bounds. And we all like to be scared. I also have a deep love for vampires, hence most of them are involved in my stories.
Because the music I listen to makes me as much of what I am as the stuff I write (in addition to scaring, pissing off, and confusing my friends), here are some of the bands and singers I love: Nevermore, My Dying Bride, Tori Amos, OTEP, Led Zepplin, KoRn, Opeth, Depeche Mode, Metallica, Ani Difranco, Marilyn Manson, Alice in Chains, Fiona Apple, TOOL, Frank Sinatra, Type O Negative, Pantera, Hole, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, Anathema, A Perfect Circle, Ministry, Black Sabbath, Slipknot, Kittie, Zao, Shadows Fall, Jay-Z, Fireball Ministry, Blood Sweat & Tears, The Cure, Lords of Acid, Patsy Cline, Pentagram, Immolation, Collective Soul, among many, many others.
*Because it seems like the things to do...*
*stumbeline1* and *carbon made* - amazing song writers and poets, respectively, who are 2 of the best friends I've ever had.
