Ripple poetry, a form I mistakenly created, that if words could draw a picture, would appear as ripples down the page.
The ripple poem is created of 5 verses, the first four with three lines each and the last verse with four lines. The form is as follows:
Start your poem with any line, any subject matter.
The second line is to compliment or enhance the above
The third line will do the same, rhyming with line two
Second verse, start the same, keep it on track
And again we write a line to compliment here
Following with another that rhymes with the line directly above.
Now here, we use the last line of verse one (first ripple)
Add a line to compliment for this verse
And again, a second line, rhyming with the above.
Here we use the sixth line (second ripple)
Still following pattern, two lines are written
To compliment the start of this verse, rhyming of course
And here is where we change, start with line nine
But now put line four in here
The very first line goes in this one
With the last line closing off the poem, rhyming with the line 2 above this.
The pattern looks like this.
Line 1
Line 2 a rhyme
Line 3 a rhyme
Line 4
Line 5 b rhyme
Line 6 b rhyme
Line 3
Line 7 c rhyme
Line 8 c rhyme
Line 6
Line 9 d rhyme
Line 10 d rhyme
Line 8
Line 4
Line 1
Line 11 (rhyme with line 4)
To write a ripple, just begin
Here we add two rhyming lines
Follow with it every time
Repeat the lesson in each part
Again we add two lines
To carry on this rhyme
Follow with it every time
Start this with line three
Ripple effects you now see
To carry on this rhyme
The sixth line starts this show
And a rippling you will go
Ripple effects you now see
Repeat the lesson in each part.
To write a ripple, just begin
And see the ripple from the start.
The first one I wrote by mistake, is seen here:

WarrioroftheHeart has been writing in this ripple form, and has made his own derivative of it. He has written a piece, also explaining ways to write in this form. To view his breakdown on the ripple, please see:

Thank you Adrian!
Maybe some will give it a ripple, (haha) maybe not. A few have, and it's really not that hard. One person said it was easier to start from the bottom and work up.
If anyone is lost, ask, I'll clarify as best as I can.

After I had written my first one, someone asked me what form it was. I went and did some research and found nothing to be in that 'form', so I labeled it as a ripple for the reasons above, when it paints a piece down the page, it ripples. There are a few that have tried it, one that uses it often. I don't expect anything for it, it's labeled more or less for myself. But why not share it.
Thanks

Interesting and so different - by accident you say. Nothing to this then is there? We just have to write and accidentally we will invent a new form. LOL Good for you.

No Adrian, I don't think you a rat. Nor have I. I know this style works for you. You took it and make a tweak here and there and now you have your own version of the ripple. I look forward to more.

I keep coming back here as a reference and it only just occured to me that I had not made a comment or applaud yet, I am so sorry, you must have thought me a rat.
This is a great style for me, sometimes it helps to have a structure to place my thoughts into, and many of the lines that pop into my head just seem to fit in. Thank you for making it up and paying enough attention to what you did to write it down.
It seems almost instictive.
Pretty much the way you made it.

Thank you for reading and commenting. It was sort of mistakenly created, but so are a lot of things. If you do give it a whirl, I would love to see the finished product.

interesting to say the least...might have to try this form...I love uniqueness, am often commented on because I tend to think outside the box and thus not adhere to set forms...am glad you posted this...it shows value in remembering that all forms started at one point or another by someone thinking outside the box...very creative...and isn't that what art is really about!
