Thank you media.
For making me cliche.
All the stars sing like they know,
and now I feel ashamed.
If I tell you I'm in Iraq,
If I tell you what I've seen,
would it be for attention?
Would you understand what it means?
I have become so disconnected.
Home seems like so far away.
More than just a time difference,
night here for me, is your day.
I hold up my facade,
Being the cliche soldier I see.
But underneath I'm just another person,
working to be free.
But yesterday I got a box.
My cards for father's day.
All of the rest of this crap
just started to fade away.
I don't care about the media,
or what you think when you read this.
Cliche or not, I care about one thing,
and that's the family that I miss.
I want to see my Son smile.
I want to feel his hug.
To be a good father
is more than having it printed on a mug.
I've never met my daughter.
That makes me feel like I failed.
I know she has her mother,
but she still needs to be held.
Here I am at this point,
this is where the cliche kicks in...
I would say I'm here for you,
but I won't give in.
We all fight this fight,
and my wife more than I.
She doesn't have me there,
to hold her when she cries.
I'm sure the story has been made so old,
and we are all desensitized,
But it is my life, old or not,
and not just through anyone's eyes.
