Walking to October
I took a walk today,
trying to gather my thoughts.
October is coming...
Pulling me away.
I'll miss my wife,
the way her tears fall on my cheek,
letting me know she loves me...
I'm sorry I have to go.
My son doesn't know,
He looks at me with a smile thinking,
"We'll have just as much fun tomorrow."
He doesn't understand that tomorrow...
Isn't coming...
I feel the warm breeze of freedom
brush across my face,
then close my eyes as the cage
slowly moves into place.
I go, so you don't have to.
It almost makes me angry
to see all we take for granted.
Yet my resolve stays intact.
I took a walk today,
feeling every blade of grass
as my feet carry me to October.
My goodbye to be put in stone.
I go, so you don't have to...
I pray you feel the warm
breeze of freedom,
brushing across your face...
