Brendan Newcomb, graduate of the Quarantine Unit school of the shodokan arts, competed in the National Poetry Slam Championships in Austin, Texas in 2006 and 2007. His third chapbook, World Showcase, was released on October 1st as a non-profit.
This page contains poems from the last six years. Some of the earlier pieces are quite raw and unrefined, but I guess I wanted to show how you can go from crummy to just plain tolerable in the space of a few years.
Brendan Newcomb lives in his fortified ranch, Castle Bregancon, in Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada.
He also recommends these poets:

Curtis Meyer, who was to Quarantine Unit what MacArthur was to Pacific battles, Jessica Fletcher was to finding culprits, Moe Howard to all the Stooge lineups. It's poetry that leaves tags on highway signs, tapes kick me papers on classroom bullies, and rains down spitballs on targets like a good-natured plague of the Great White North.

Imagine poetry that breaks your heart in one stanza, then puts the pieces back with spackle of laughter in the next.
Oh, you haven't heard? Don't worry. You will. And the company that will bring it to you... is AT&T.
No. I mean Nona Leona.
(expletive deleted), I messed that up.

One of the most intense and talented spoken word artists I know, and someone who agrees with me in this respect: judges at slams on the fringe are best unheard and unseen.

Who's the Vols fan who doles out the harshness with such ferocity that even Dr. Tran can't step up?
Wes. Yeah, can you dig it? They say Wes is one bad mother...
But I was just talking about Wes.
So there you have it. Good readings for the night. And if you have the time, come back and check out a work or two here. It'd be right neighborly.

BriannaBrumfield on March 27I love reading your poetry, Ro. Thanks for keeping up here so I can check it out when I'm far from home. Not sure if you checked it out but I sent you a link to a poet in Seattle named Dain Michael Down who I think you'll love.
