Hi there B00tleg!
I want to personally welcome you to AllPoetry. This is a wonderful place to share your writing with others, and to enjoy the vast variety of poetry posted here by those who share in your love of poetic expression. You can post poetry and get feedback from writers all over the world as well as read and comment on others work. The more poems you read and leave a comment on, the more your name will be seen and people will want to read your work. This is an interactive community, which means you need to comment on 4 poems for every 1 you post. The 'Help' link will give you more information about the site. It is an excellent page to stop at, and will answer most of your basic questions.
If there is something the page doesn't answer, or if you need further assistance, you can ask any of us for help. The Moderators are highlighted in blue and Site Greeters are in green. Click on the (IM) beside the name in the poet list, type your question into the small box that will appear just below the chatterbox, and send!... 
is just a mouse click away!
At the top of the screen, along the same line as the 'Help' link, you will notice a 'Contests' link. There you can explore many different challenges that will help to inspire your creative talent. Each month the Site Greeters host a contest just for new poets like yourself, allpoetry.com/Contest/436085 (Here is a link to a column that describes contests and how they are judged- allpoetry.com/Column/307514 )
At the bottom of the page you will see several different links to AP's sister sites; StoryWrite, OldPoetry, AllPhilosophy.
As a note of appreciation from the site, all new members are given a free four-day trial preferred membership when they join. This allows you to post pictures with your poems and on your author page. Once the membership has expired, you will no longer be able to add pictures or enjoy the other benefits of being a member unless you start a membership for yourself. Although a membership is not required in order to post poems or comment, it does make the AP experience a bit more exciting. Further details are in the 'Store' link at the top of the page.
You may have noticed the emoticons, or 'smilies' that people add to comments, and the chatterbox. A list can be found here-> allpoetry.com/Column/306041
If you want your work read, but no one seems to be visiting- the two options are to use the 'Shameless Promotion' section, or to spend some points to Feature your work. It is not looked on nicely if you promote in the Chatter Box, Instant Message, or the Bulletin Boards, and a moderator or greeter will probably ask you to stop.
