This is Mackie and Gracie Blue & Gold Macaws. I've hand fed Gracie from 2 months old she is now 4 years. Mackie I've had since he was 2 years and he is now 5 years. Both have a very large vocabulary and seem to do better talking to each other. They play games with each other and both tell off on Winkie a Cockatoo when he is doing something he's not suspose to--then laughs when I correct Winkie. They are like buzzsaws with wood and are very expensive to keep in toys, homes and foods. I bake birdy breads and cook for them and keep a fresh supply of fruits and nuts at all times. They have some of the same emotions as we do & one is blushing--it's called The Macaw Blush where their soft white skin on their face turns pink. Also they have Star Blazing with their pupils when they like something as a certain food, something you say to them , a neck rub, or a kiss on the soft cheek ect....
They have a life span of 100 years so a will is a must when you own larger parrots along with a trust to help with their expense. I also keep books with their life, likes, birdy bread recipe's, and medical in them so when I'm not here with them anymore hopefully their life won't change so much.
If you have any questions about them feel free to ask---as you can tell I love talking about my fids. (feathered kids)
I've always wanted to be called momma but I never dreamed it would be by birds.
Hugs to all,
Amanda
ect........................................................................ My poetry style depends on my mood & how much I need to get out of my head.
In my next life I wish my higher power would bless me with Maya Angelou's wisdom and a rugged cowboy with long hair in tight fitting jeans--lol--a lady's got to dream. I believe in Karma and respect nature.
After a 21 year marriage ended last year I'm just starting to find myself again -- Never dreamed I was lost until I searched for me-so lost I didn't know myself. Life's better now. I raise & train parrots--dearly love them. I do feather painting and have thrown myself into the arts.
Psych.Nurse/Recreational Therapist for 22 years. My Grandma gave me both wings and roots I have always lived in the same small town in central Arkansas that I was born in. In my late teens and early 20's I traveled and played drums in a band. With that adventure I meet many interesting people but the drink and drugs that went along with the life style became to much after a few years. Just glad I lived through it. I've a passion for travel and my up coming goal is NSW, OZ
I have a need to see Cockatoo's, Oz King's, and Rainbow Lorikeet's in the wild.
Art Bell of Coast to Coast has been my muse for years.
I want life to grab ahold of me and lead me into new adventures....
A few of my quotes---
LOL--I have my glass slippers-I'm just flat footed and can't dance
in them.
In life it's not the bubblegum I want
It's the Big Red.
I'm a southern lady I'll wink at a
gentleman whether he deserves it or not.
When life gives you lemons make lemonade
it's the sugar to put in the lemonade thats hard to find.
Let me be crazy today and tomorrow I'll sane-up.
A southern lady can't live without a maid or pink lipstick.
Life is more interesting around famous people.
I can play wipe out with the best of them.
I can make you think it's all your idea.
I will always be a student of southern flirting.
It seems to me amongst all the writes
I can only pull a handful out with meaning
and it's the ones I write for myself and not
the contest.--

It was such a pretty day we decided to take a walk
We had not gone ten steps before I knew
That you and I are long past the point of no return.
Hand in hand we go sometimes closer sometimes farther apart
Because of the way we read and talk, agree and disagree.
Step by step we advance against the cynics
Those all knowing and unknowing who honestly think marriage is dead.
But how can marriage be dead in a world I choose to walk with you?
How can marriage be dead so long as we still seek still cling still want each other?
So at this corner of our lives stop and listen to me now--my love
I still seek
I still cling
I still want to walk the rest of the way with you.
In this uncertain world
This much I know for certain--
I'll always love you.
If I catch ya reading anything of mine I give 10 points---some may already know.

AzureBlue on July 23, 2005Your fids are very lucky to have you...you take care of them the way my mother has always taken care of hers. She used to have a recipe for a bird treat she called "bird cake" that she made all the time. She is so devoted to her birds that once, many years ago, as I was going through fertility treatments (unsuccessfully), I had a dream that I finally had a baby and I called her to ask if she wanted to come over and see it...she said, "No, but do you want some bird cake?"!!! In real life she would never do that...she badly wants to be a grandma...but she did laugh when I told her that dream.
Beautiful macaws up there!
Lorena
