I have been writing ever since my freshman year in highschool when I met someone who changed my life completely. I had fallen in love so hard I had no idea what to do with all this emotion. I ended up putting it into words and the "Love Letter" was born. It was at the same time I realized a talent for writing. I pursued my interest in writing for future instances as a healthy output for a massive amount of emotion that i had no idea how to deal with. Then, of course, I did not remain with only love poems but when I was depressed I expressed myself through darker words and moods that surround and inhabit some of my poems. I build my next poem to be solely on the inspiration I received to do so. If I write objectively, my work lacks a certain luster and just becomes a slew of words. I may only have a few poems but each of them is a part of me; a part of my past. And that makes me who i am. These poems aren't just words that sounds nice together or fit a certain rhyme scheme. Each of them has a story behind it from a particular moment in my life that impacted me so. And after reading my work I can only hope it impacts you in some way. My only desire is that I can retain such a gift in writing throughout my entire life, because sometimes words can convey more than whatever is written on a piece of paper. It can show other people how strong the human emotional spectrum can be and even give some insight into their lives. If I can write something to make people think about themselves, others, and whatever situations they are undergoing, then I feel what I am doing is worthwhile. If not, then at least I can keep my past alive through poetry.
Everything I've written I have done so while in highschool. But I am now in college so the first poem I've written since I have arrived at college is "When You Are Here". Everything after that includes writes I have completed during college.
To all other poets out there, it's not enough to just say what you are feeling. They must feel what you are feeling. No matter your range in diction, as long as you can make the reader feel after reading your poem, you have done a great thing.
