My name is Michael, been writing many years. Not just poetry but a lot of story writing as well. Writing is my passion and my art form.
I am a full quarter century (Plus 1 ) and have already been called advanced but I don’t think I need a cane just yet. I am a social friendly sort of person. I am one of those sorts that always try to look on the brighter side of life. I live on the island state of Australia and it is a very poetic looking sort of place. Lots of scenery and sights to inspire.
So something that explains me a little better ... I tend to view the things that happen in life as an opportunity to grow and make oneself better. I have been through a lot of hard times and have seen many close to me go through even more. For me, the pain and suffering I have been through has a positive side, it allows me to understand the suffering and pain of others and therefore help. I visualise it like a charred rose bush in a land of ash that still yet manages to produce roses for those who come along, the flowers presented have an after scent of smoke to show that I too have been through the fire.
I also believe in the beauty and wonder of people. I have seen so many people who hate the way they are, the way they look or talk, yet to me the outer shell is not as important. For one thing, the shell changes as it ages anyways, and one day disappears entirely. What is inside therefore, is far more important and often, far more beautiful. If you have ever been truly touched by a person’s actions or words – such as the words of a poem, than that shows the inner person I am talking about. Going by some of the poems on here I can see so many wonderful people and I am honoured to spend time among them.
Now, despite all this seriousness of the above I am a person who LOVES humour. One of my greatest pleasures is making people laugh or smile. I am also a person of great contrast; indeed everyone who knows me doesn’t consider me ‘normal’ as I am a person full of surprises. I usually respond to that with ‘all the well known people in history were never described as normal so maybe I am destined for greatness’.
I love music; I listen to many different types so making a list would be a year’s work. Same thing with books and movies, my tastes vary wildly.
That is one thing I should add, my poems. Mine are on all different subjects and I try to put myself into the perspectives I am trying to convey. I also try different ways of writing. A lot of my poetry rhymes but there is a great deal that does not. The more you read the more you will understand. I recognise that life has many emotions and sights and not all of them are good so my poetry goes from dark to light and everything in between.
I adore putting in all the aspects I see in life, the beauty, the joy and the pain for people are made of all emotions and all kinds of experiences. I try to write from the personal perspective. Whether from my own experiences or from those I have helped or can sympathise with. I want people to be able to relate to the thoughts, feelings and impressions wherever possible. I hope I succeed for you.
I am a romantic. One of those sorts that believes in true love and all that, lol. I actually have very strong beliefs, and always try to do my best in life.
Hmm I think I will leave it here, I have some excerpts below from poems that I enjoy and hope you like what you read.
Mike
And with tears of blood he cleansed the hand,
The hand that held the steel:
For only blood can wipe out blood,
And only tears can heal.
- - - -Oscar Wilde "The Ballad of Reading Gaol"
Beauty never slumbers;
All is in her name;
But the rose remembers
The dust from which it came.
- - - -Edna St. Vincent Millay
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by frost.
- - - -J. R. R. Tolkien "Lord of the Rings"
But Fear and the Muse in turn guard the place
Where the banished poet has gone
And the night that comes with quickened pace
Is ignorant of dawn.
- - - -Anna Akhmatova
Come away, O human child!
to the waters and the wild
with a faery, hand in hand,
for the world's more full of weeping
than you can understand...
- - - W. B. Yeats
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
- - -Dylan Thomas
Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Times is still a-flying:
And this same flower that smiles today,
Tomorrow will be dying.
- - - -Robert Herrick "To the Virgins to Make Much of Time"
Girl with the burning golden eyes,
And red-bird song, and snowy throat:
I bring you gold and silver moons,
And diamond stars, and mists that float.
I bring you moons and snowy clouds,
I bring you prarie skies to-night
To feebly praise your golden eyes
And red-bird song, and throat so white.
- - - -Vachel Lindsay "To Gloriana"
Her eyes the glowworm lend thee,
The shooting stars attend thee;
And the elves also,
Whose little eyes glow
Like the sparks of fire, befriend thee.
- - - -Robert Herrick "The Night Piece to Julia"
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
- - - -Elizabeth Barrett Browning "Sonnets from the Portuguese"
I shall go the way of the open sea,
To the lands I knew before you came,
And the cool ocean breezes shall blow from me
The memory of your name.
- - - -Laurence Hope
I walked beside the evening sea
And dreamed a dream that could not be;
The waves that plunged along the shore
Said only: "Dreamer, dream no more!"
- - - -George William Curtis
If I could take your troubles
I would toss them into the sea,
But all these things I'm finding
Are impossible for me.
I cannot build a mountain
Or catch a rainbow fair,
But let me be what I know best,
A friend that is always there.
- - - -Khahlil Gibran "A True Friend"
It's easy, perhaps to die for a dream
With banners unfurled - and be forgiving!
It's the hardest part to follow the gleam
When scorned by the world - and go on living!
- - - -Myra Brooks Welch
Know'st thou the land where the lemon-trees bloom,
Where the gold orange glows in the deep thicket's gloom,
Where a wind ever soft from the blue heaven blows,
And the groves are of laurel and myrtle and rose!
- - - -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe "Wilhelm Meister"
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
- - - -Lord Byron "She Walks in Beauty"
We are the music-makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams;
World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world forever, it seems.
- - - -Arthur O'Shaughnessy
Anyways, those are just some of the sort of poems that speak to me, and yes I am aware most of those are rhyming, lol.

Paint the violent expression violet
in spluttering apoplectic strokes -
Sliding glass walls of water droplets
splattered on the ground like eggs -
Resting in a field of hope

1) I see you standing by the ocean tide
I watch as those tears slowly slide -
I crossed the oceans vast and deep
I would have swum all those miles -
Sculpted sand settles in shapes
teases the mind like cloud forms -
When broken dreams discordantly play
like a merry-go-round in the head -
Within a forest spritely skipping
A figure was deftly slipping -
I love you more
More than words express -
I sailed across the open sea
The open sea that is so free -
When pictures paint a thousand words
And emotions a thousand pictures
My Poetry
-
Air bellows as chaos flies
mind putrid with fear -
Dawn brandishes its sabre
as it cuts across ribboned sky -
Upon the surface of the soil
lay stone naming past -
Seven men roamed seven ways to search for a home for seven days before crossing once more into a realm of shadow and emotion blue. In their search they found perched, an angel with a silver bell to sing and ring when all is w8 lines, 1 comment, October 29. In My own style, Story Poem

It was bitterly cold and the little child was lost in the dark green forest, it was cloudy and looked like it might rain. Bill was afraid of the dark, the daylight was already fading and the mist that his grandfather told him
