~ You Were My Meadowlark ~

Upon your bragging post in pastures song
sensuous flutey notes the whole day long
I hear echoes of sweet past melodies ~
angelic notes amongst the galaxies

Angelic notes amongst the galaxies
a young meadowlark singing harmonies
Gentle threads of light from a soul of gold
filters through grasslands a tale to unfold

I hear echoes of sweet past melodies ~
suddenly there are flowers and berries
Prisms of light arise from the meadows
embraced in a cloak of greens and yellows

Sensuous flutey notes the whole day long
enchanting little bird with charm so strong
Nature has a way with all living things
the meadowlark is love on fluttered wings

Upon your bragging post in pastures song
young man pure of heart now in angels throng
God required a meadowlark by his side
He called you to heaven and you complied

Dedicated to my young brother ~ not a day goes by without tears

From An Ocean of Thoughts 

Like breakers crashing on the shore
my thoughts are racing, flinging more
fine words across the skudding sky,
and tumbling then, in deft reply.

An ocean deep of ballads sweet;
of free verse and iambic feet,
and whirling in the tidal brew
are sonnets, blank verse and Haiku.

My work is often unrefined ~
my rhymes are sometimes much maligned,
yet I believe it's my domain
to make folks laugh, and entertain.

And poetry is like the sea ~
it cleanses lifts and carries me
to set me on a distant shore
and leaves me breathless, wanting more.
